D.L.S. performs power testing for aircraft, vehicles, ships, and other military equipment under MIL-STD 704, MIL-STD 1275, and MIL-STD 1399.

These standards establish electrical interface characteristics for military equipment utilizing both AC and DC electric power to ensure compatibility between user equipment and the electric power system. These standards include voltage, frequency, phase, power factor, ripple, maximum current, electrical noise and abnormal conditions (overvoltage and under voltage), for both AC and DC systems. The standards also establish limits of transient voltage characteristics and steady state limits.

MIL-STD-1399 Tests:

MIL-STD-1399 specifies the types of shipboard electric power to be supplied from the electric power system are as follows:

  • Type I: 440 or 115 volts (V), 60 hertz (Hz) ungrounded and is the standard shipboard electric power source.
  • Type I: 115/200 V, 60 Hz, 3 phase, 4 wire, Wye grounded. Applicable for for avionic shops.
  • Type II: 440 or 115 V, 400 Hz ungrounded and has only limited application. Use of type II power requires the submittal and approval of a deviation
  • Type III: 440 or 115 V, 400 Hz ungrounded having tighter tolerances as compared to types I and II. Type III power has restricted use and its use requires submittal and approval of a deviation request
  • Type III: 115/200 V, 400 Hz, 3 phase, 4 wire, Wye grounded. Applicable for avionic shops and for aircraft servicing.
